What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle non-intrusive therapy with very powerful effects. It is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. The name “Reiki” (pronounced as ray-key) is Japanese for “universal life energy”, and is also a word used to describe a system of natural healing based on the belief that there is an energy field surrounding our bodies and all living things including animals and plants. It is the same as Chi in Chinese or Prana in Sanskrit.
When this energy flows uninterrupted there is balance and harmony within and around us, creating a sense of wellbeing. Reiki helps to maintain uninterrupted energy flow by helping to remove any energy blocks in the body. Energy blocks in the body can manifest as illnesses and cause general un-wellness.
Reiki is used in many Hospitals and Hospices in conjunction with traditional medicine, is open to all belief systems and is therefore used throughout the world by people of all creeds and belief systems. It treats the whole person: mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. In spite of its association with healing, the Reiki Federation Ireland website states that Reiki does not cure ailments. Reiki is considered a complementary therapy rather than an alternative to conventional medicine.

Who is Reiki for?

Reiki can benefit everyone of any age group. It is a general immune boost, reduces stress, anxiety, depression and simply helps to have a better night sleep. Its positive effects can be felt by all. When people receive Reiki, it allows their body to help itself become healthier and stronger. Healthy people can use it to maintain wellness. Unwell people can use it to help the body fight illness, and restore balance alongside other conventional or complementary treatments.
Reiki is a great support in helping people deal with normal day to day issues in a relaxed way, it can simply be used to provide emotional support during life. The more Reiki energy that a person receives, the better they will feel.
How Reiki works
We all have an energy field (aura) surrounding our physical body. As we go through life, demands get placed on our energy field. Reiki can re-energise this energy field.
During a Reiki treatment the natural balance of the body can be restored providing deep relaxation and bringing a sense of peace and well-being. Reiki will pass through clothing, bandages, plaster casts or braces so anyone can avail of a Reiki treatment.
